So much to talk about, so little time.

Robert Schwartzman at Webster Hall )

THE WEEKEND WAS THE GREATEST. World Cup of Quidditch V. It started out already exhausting because I really needed rest after being at work all of Thursday and then having to wake up early Friday. Saturday (and sometimes Sunday, if I can get away with it) is my day to really enjoy sleeping in with nowhere to go. Instead I woke up at 7am, and left to pick up [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky at Penn Station. We walked up to Times Square, where they were re-creating Super Mario Land for the day. It was still pretty early so the crowd wasn't ridiculous and we were able to observe and leave quickly. I didn't realize until later that they were actually giving away the Tanooki tails and ears the volunteers were wearing. I wanted a pair. :(

Then Quidditch happened )

I'm like an episode away from being caught up with American Horror Story. THE HELL IS GOING ON.
bohemia: (Misc - ILYM Rush concert)
I am in the process of uploading my Chicago vlogs (there are many, I'm sorry, IDK when I premiered a reality show, but apparently I have), but I also went to concerts last week and just got my Pottermore email (!!) so there are things to update about.

But I'm in the middle of Chapter One of Pottermore and was taking my time, but then it crashed while I was marauding around (see what I did there?) moment two, so I'm sitting here letting refreshevery and YouTube do their thing, and writing this entry. PRODUCTIVITY, I HAS IT.

Anyway, when Pottermore gets back up, I'm FireboltLight136. Add me! And at this rate I will get sorted in November. STAY TUNED.

So concerts, yes? )

LOOOL SORRY I HAD THIS ENTRY SITTING HERE FOREVER TO POST BUT POTTERMORE STARTED WORKING AND I POWERED THROUGH TO CHAPTER 7.

I'M A RAVENCLAW!!!! OMG, I HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER TO SEE THOSE BLUE RESULTS ON A PAGE. Also, I love how almost everyone in Ravenclaw has an owl. I ALMOST GOT A TOAD, HOW WEIRD WOULD THAT HAVE BEEN. My wands irl and in Pottermore don't match up, but I can TAKE THAT DIFFERENCE because the walnut wand on Alivan's is ugly.
bohemia: (HP - MOM - Echo Base Pirates)
Uh. So... Luke Conard, guys.

I wasn't a huge fan of Ministry of Magic when I saw them in November. I knew they were good and were my favorite wizard rock band, but I didn't know anything about the members other than Alex Carpenter was really good friends with them.

So now that I'm a little bit more versed on the Echo Base guys and how they roll, I was determined to see all of them live again.

CAN I JUST SAY ALEX GOOT IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. I told him I'd never heard of him before and sort of regretted the fact that this was my first time seeing him live. During his set he'd mentioned he'd been in NY once before and no one showed up to his show besides the people working the venue that night. So I asked where he'd played and he said some place I've forgotten and I said I'd never heard of it. And he goes, "It's Pete Wentz' place," and I smile and together we were like, "That's why you've never heard of it." And he said it wasn't really his scene but was really glad everyone came out this night. So I told him to watch out for me and that I would be at every NY show from now on (it didn't sound so stalkerish, I said it pretty light-heartedly). <3333333 ALEX GOOT. When I'm done with the Echo Base guys' YouTube videos I might have to look into everything Goot has ever done on the internet. Sorry, vlogbrothers, you've been put on hold yet again!
bohemia: (HP - Stupefy)
So guys! Now that Livejournal is back up and Russia and all them countries have their platforms back up, we can go back to fangirling to the fullest!

Especially me, because the Echo Base CA guys are back to doing daily vlogs, this time for Vlog A Lotta August. I was going to join them. but by the time I realized the month change it was the 2nd. I can still technically do "a lotta" but IDK if I wanna.

But also, I saw Harry and the Potters on Sunday with [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky and my friends Carlos and Mike. Read more... )

Afterwards I saw everyone off to their respective transportation before going home myself. I was tired and my "dogs were barking" as Carlos likes to say. It was a good time all around. And I converted non-Potterheads to wizard rock! WHO KNEW THAT WAS A POSSIBILITY.

Photos are on Facebook in my concert album. I have other things to say, but it'll have to wait for tomorrow because 1. This is long enough already and IDK that LJ is stable enough to post longer entries yet, and 2. It is bedtime for me. :P
bohemia: (ATHF - Meatwad)
Livejournal, you have returned! Except that.... you haven't. I can post but I can't read my flist. Boo.

This week flew by but was also interesting. Since everything I usually do is related to LJ in some way, down to watching TV that isn't live, I was on YouTube finally getting around to watching a bunch of things like A Very Potter Musical/Sequel and Echo Base CA-related videos, like all the guys' VEDAs and most of the music videos.

Let's talk about Starkid for a second. Darren Criss is cool, and I enjoy his dorkiness and creativity, but I don't really enjoy a lot of his original songs outside of AVPS/AVPS. His fans tend to annoy me on Tumblr and Glee is another issue. Joey Richter on the other hand is a beautiful, beautiful man that I prefer to just stare at while he speaks. He sort of reminds me of Samm Levine mixed with Jared Padalecki and a dash of teddy bear. Just look at him:

Under here )

Ugh, I love.

Also, I am addicted to "Stutter" and Joe Walker's Umbridge. I'm not sure why that's the character I walked away with the most amount of love for, but it happened. I do like Snape and Draco (LAUREN LOPEZ IS REALLY HOT, I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A WIG CHANGES THAT), too, but UMBRIDGE. <33 And I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I think the sequel is better if only because the songs are nicer and there are a lot more human moments in it than in the first one, which was sillier. And it is my plan this weekend to learn the dance moves to this:

Stutter at LeakyCon )

Now wizard rock. I'm really upset that I got this into wizard rock this late. I should've been paying more attention when I started downloading things back in 2007/2008. The Remus Lupins are apparently disbanded now and Alex is now in Ministry of Magic (my favorite group, so not all that bad?) and the Harry and the Potters are still going strong, but I just missed the Con Tour in early July and I feel like all the bands might be stopping now that the movies are over and there isn't more canon to come in any respect (except for Pottermore, maybe?). I mean, I can't even find the MySpaces of some of my older faves. At least I got to see a bunch of them at the Wizard Rock Festival in November and I'm seeing Harry and the Potters tomorrow. And I really wish I could go to wrockstock but it's too far. My consolation prize is that people like Jason Munday and Alex Carpenter are still making nerdcore music, so I have that, if I don't have wizard rock. I wish more fandoms had their version of wizard rock. Doctor Who has trock but I have tried various times to watch Doctor Who and it didn't grab me. I don't even have a major fandom right now, but I would dive into one if there was a music scene, probably. So right now, my biggest fascination is the guys from Ministry of Magic/Echo Base LA and their friends.

I can't even go through all the favorite parts from their vlogs, but basically, here are their Youtube channels:

I also watched all of My Drunk Kitchen, finally and now I sort of want to vlog myself cooking. Not necessarily drunk, but she makes it look hysterical and fun...

I've spent today thinking of new layouts for all my social network accounts. I went and found fonts for a logo, color palettes from colourlovers.com, design schemes from various Google searches, the dimensions and size of each image file I'd need.... and now I realize I don't really use Youtube, Twitter doesn't really need a professional background, LJ and Tumblr I just recently re-did and Vimeo doesn't do customizing. :/ So I just made backgrounds for Youtube and Twitter for whenever I decide I need to start using them. I did re-do my about.me page and I'm still thinking of a better, more personal and unique background for that one, so it's just an artsy, hipster background for now.

So last night was Blipfest '11. Going to a chiptune concert has been a dream of mine since I first heard of 8Bit Weapon on Attack of the Show allll the way back when it was actually a geeky show. /elitist

Blipfest's also tonight and tomorrow night but I could only go last night, and really I wanted to see Anamanaguchi and Talks to Animals the most. Zen Albatross was good, too. I thought his set was entirely too short. The others were okay--Crashfaster opened for Minusbaby, and I like him much more than Minusbaby so I was disappointed when they actually took the stage. Definitely checking out Zen Albatross when I can. Ralp was meh but cute while also looking like Kevin Pereira and I was confused throughout that set by my shallowness.

Anthony Carboni and the Bytejacker crew were there. I only saw him for a second and didn't know how to approach him (I did this last time I saw him too, actually) and then @babylonian passed by and looked right at me and I was basically the raisins meme for a good while afterwards. I tried to find Carboni later to say hi or whatever, but he was always either taking pictures, updating Twitter or interviewing people. :/ Later on I found out that Jon was there too (the old cameraman for Bytejacker) and also one of the regular video commenters, Sanskrit and I was like, "Noooo so many Bytejacker people and I met none of themmmmm." (I just.... have a lot of feelings about Bytejacker.) I did however, have the shortest tweetconvo ever with Sanskrit on the train back home. So... there's that.

Anyway, the setup time was so much shorter than regular concerts because, well, they're playing with modded Gameboys, right. No tuning really needed, just audio check. Although Anamanaguchi really took a while and that was pretty sad because I almost thought I would have to leave before their set was over. But they finished in time, yayy.

I really enjoyed the fact that there were people taking pictures with Game Boy Cameras and 3DSes. Really taking the lobit attitude to another extreme. Also there was a furry who was really weird at first because, well, he was a large blue goat, right. But then he started posing for pictures and was actually giving advice to people and having conversations and I was like, "DUDE IS AWESOME; ALWAYS BE MY FRIEND." But now I realize he was actually the mascot for dragonchiptune and lol, well, my noob is showing. He's still awesome but... innocuous now. AND I'M SORRY I THOUGHT YOU WERE A FURRY.

I wish I could go back. NEXT YEAR (or if they do one in December like they usually do), I SHALL. And wherever I'm working, I'm taking off the entire run of days. XD

ALSO TOMORROW IS BIG APPLE COMIC CON SPRING EDITION AND I EXPECT A LOT OF LOL AND FANTASTICNESS THEN AS WELL. My Jubilee costume isn't as great as I wanted it to be (I DON'T HAVE A YELLOW JACKET, SADFACEEEEE), but whatever. I'm done running all over the city looking for one. I'm still new to cosplaying, shut uppppp.

BRB, watching/listening to the live stream of tonight's Blipfest.

P.S. Random tidbit I learned about myself: I can drink a liter of water in 20 gulps or 30 secs.

I really wanted to talk about the Rooney concert before the opportunity passes but I've been getting home late from work every day while my sister has been going to sleep early, so my time on the computer's been limited. Other things have happened that made me frustrated and angry and not wanting to deal with anything online, too, so it's been come home, scroll through LJ/watch TV, eat, go to sleep all week. Things, I mean, besides Tuesday's concert.

But this entry's about the concert )

And I didn't expect them to pull out another cover for the encore, but by that time I was like, "I'M EVEN SAVING THE BAR WRISTBAND TO THIS CONCERT. I LOVE EVERYTHING." I didn't buy anything though. I wanted a sweatshirt but they didn't have any I didn't own already on sale and the shirts on display were sort of lame. So now I'm on Tumblr every night watching videos of the rest of the tour. I love these guys. One day I will work on a show where I will get them on as guests. Or something. Everyone needs goals, right? Leave me alone.
bohemia: (Misc - NYC)
I KNOW, I KNOW... TV. But I really need to post about this week so I can record it for posterity~*~*.

It all started Saturday, when [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky came up to see the play I'm helping with at school. My dad and I drove down to pick her up from the train station and our car battery died? So we had to wait until a family friend came all the way out to give us a jump and then get to school with enough time for me to do my stage manager stuff. I got there later than I was supposed to--but earlier than the audience, so there was that.

The next day we drove her all the way home, which is always a fun ride, except the intermittent clouds made the roads very bi-polar and scary to drive on at times. My dad and I kept shouting at the rainbows we saw on the way home. THERE WAS A DOUBLE RAINBOW AND A HALF.

After I got back home [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky and I both realized I could have just stayed at her house because she was supposed to come back to NYC for the Rooney show yesterday ANYWAY. But we (mainly me) weren't thinking straight. Then that night's play performance was canceled because one of our cast members hurt their foot.

The rest of the week was a blur. I didn't do much except watch TV and laze about until Wednesday when I went back downtown to pick up [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky and see Rooney. We stopped at McGee's Pub, the inspiration for MacLaren's on How I Met Your Mother, got a little tipsy on Horse's Necks (me) and Gin & Tonics ([livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky) and then somehow found our way to the Rooney show (there was a drunk!voicepost planned but I couldn't remember my passcode since I hadn't done a VP in AGES), where we both got another round of Gin & Tonics and tried to enjoy the show from various points in the venue. We were near the stage by the end though, which was what mattered.

I may have been inebriated, but I have duties at concerts. )

And then the show ended 20 minutes before [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky's train left NYC so even though we made a mad dash to get there in time, she missed it and had to crash at my place. By the time we got back to my house, the next train would have just been pulling into NYC (two hours after the train she was supposed to catch).

AND THEN WE ALMOST MISSED HER TRAIN AGAIN TODAY. But we made it by seconds, even though we were slightly hungover. And now [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky is now safely back at her own home, I made it to the play (and tech went on without a hitch even though neither lighting or sound was at the rehearsal yesterday), and had a fun day altogether. But now I'm just tired. TOMORROW, TV.

ETA: ALSO! When we were trying to get back to Penn Station for the train, one of the actors from that Enjoy play I saw recently was on the same platform and I had a small celebrity freak-out. :D
bohemia: (Celebs - Sandy back)
I went to the free Mandy Moore concert last night. It was okay. I got there around 5:30 and waited in line until they let us in at 7. There wasn't a lot of people who went, and Highline is pretty small. I liked the venue though-- there's seating so it can effectively be a nice dinner date if you're into those things. I want to go see The Roots play there on one of their jam dates. I'll have to look those up later.

ETA: Apparently they went on at 11:30pm last night. FAIL, but it is a weekly thing, so no biggie. Plus, apparently Bryan Greenberg will be at Highline on the 18th! SCORE.

Concert report )

Anyway, like I said, it was free and she was on my list of people I'd wanted to see live. And I got a scotch on the rocks and a white pizza slice out of it, so there's that.

It's apparently a week of musical revelations though. I realized that song my nephew's always singing-- the one I thought was a made-up silly jingle-- is actually a Jamie Foxx song called "Blame It". And I now know why I knew the lyrics to "Hook Up" by Kelly Clarkson on the very first time I heard it, even though I don't keep track of her anymore-- I have the same song by Katy Perry. And even though I still don't get the whole Lady Gaga phenomenon (and holy hell, she's my age? Way to make me feel accomplished!), "Poker Face" is an addicting song that makes me think of Castiel in the crackiest way.

Lia
bohemia: (Celebs - Becky's hips)
Apparently the "see a concert" thing happens once a year for me. It's been just over a year since I saw Rooney in concert. Nothing too exciting about the pre-concert day, except that I dogsat Bijou's family while their owner was out. Bijou tends to think she's better than other dogs, but she still associates with her family, so she was besides herself running in the hallways with them this afternoon.

And actually, there's not much to say about the concert itself. LOL YEAH, RIGHT.

Set Lists )

IN DEPTH BLAB WITH PICS )

Another weird coincidence: when I was on my way home I was supposed to meet up with my dad. But when the train arrived at my station, my dad just happened to be in the train car right in front of me. And the only reason I walked that far down the station was because I had to throw out a bottle and the only trash can was right at that spot.

In summation: I want a Sisky and Hunter of my own.

bohemia: (Celebs - Rooney - WDYHGM)
If it weren't for the audios, I wouldn't remember the set list at all-- which is why I can't remember what The Redwalls' set was, because it didn't strike me to record the songs until after their set was almost over.

Rooney's set list:
Blue Side
Don't Come Around Again
Calling The World
Daisy Duke
Sorry Sorry
Tell Me Soon
I'm A Terrible Person
Runaway (cover)
Paralyzed
All In Your Head
Are You Afraid
If It Were Up To Me
I Should Have Been After You
Shakin'
When Did Your Heart Go Missing?

But let's go back a ways:
