Blipfest '11

So last night was Blipfest '11. Going to a chiptune concert has been a dream of mine since I first heard of 8Bit Weapon on Attack of the Show allll the way back when it was actually a geeky show. /elitist

Blipfest's also tonight and tomorrow night but I could only go last night, and really I wanted to see Anamanaguchi and Talks to Animals the most. Zen Albatross was good, too. I thought his set was entirely too short. The others were okay--Crashfaster opened for Minusbaby, and I like him much more than Minusbaby so I was disappointed when they actually took the stage. Definitely checking out Zen Albatross when I can. Ralp was meh but cute while also looking like Kevin Pereira and I was confused throughout that set by my shallowness.

Anthony Carboni and the Bytejacker crew were there. I only saw him for a second and didn't know how to approach him (I did this last time I saw him too, actually) and then @babylonian passed by and looked right at me and I was basically the raisins meme for a good while afterwards. I tried to find Carboni later to say hi or whatever, but he was always either taking pictures, updating Twitter or interviewing people. :/ Later on I found out that Jon was there too (the old cameraman for Bytejacker) and also one of the regular video commenters, Sanskrit and I was like, "Noooo so many Bytejacker people and I met none of themmmmm." (I just.... have a lot of feelings about Bytejacker.) I did however, have the shortest tweetconvo ever with Sanskrit on the train back home. So... there's that.

Anyway, the setup time was so much shorter than regular concerts because, well, they're playing with modded Gameboys, right. No tuning really needed, just audio check. Although Anamanaguchi really took a while and that was pretty sad because I almost thought I would have to leave before their set was over. But they finished in time, yayy.

I really enjoyed the fact that there were people taking pictures with Game Boy Cameras and 3DSes. Really taking the lobit attitude to another extreme. Also there was a furry who was really weird at first because, well, he was a large blue goat, right. But then he started posing for pictures and was actually giving advice to people and having conversations and I was like, "DUDE IS AWESOME; ALWAYS BE MY FRIEND." But now I realize he was actually the mascot for dragonchiptune and lol, well, my noob is showing. He's still awesome but... innocuous now. AND I'M SORRY I THOUGHT YOU WERE A FURRY.

I wish I could go back. NEXT YEAR (or if they do one in December like they usually do), I SHALL. And wherever I'm working, I'm taking off the entire run of days. XD

ALSO TOMORROW IS BIG APPLE COMIC CON SPRING EDITION AND I EXPECT A LOT OF LOL AND FANTASTICNESS THEN AS WELL. My Jubilee costume isn't as great as I wanted it to be (I DON'T HAVE A YELLOW JACKET, SADFACEEEEE), but whatever. I'm done running all over the city looking for one. I'm still new to cosplaying, shut uppppp.

P.S. Random tidbit I learned about myself: I can drink a liter of water in 20 gulps or 30 secs.

looool, OH, COSPLAY. At first you're all like, "I'M GONNA GET THIS, AND THIS, AND DO THIS...", aaaand then you try and try, aaaaand then eventually it just gets to the, "WHATEVER, I'M DONE WITH THIS SHIT", stage. ....aaaaalthough now I keep FREAKING OUT again, and being all, "WHAT IF MY COSTUME ISN'T GOOD ENOUGHHHHH??!?!?!", &c, &c. :/

I NEED MORE TIME! And/or someone to shuttle me around because I forgot what it's like to depend on buses for getting around (whaddya meannnn I have to wait another 10 minutes IN THE RAIN just to be OMW to the next store!?).

Haha, I'm fairly confident that my costume WON'T BE ANYWHERE NEAR ANYTHING CONSIDERED DECENT. Mostly because I was just looking on Google Images and was like, ".... there IS NOTHING REMOTELY close to what I am doing here..."

okay, first of all, BEST, and second, thiiiiiis is just SUPER-CEMENTING how much I want to cosplay like that Disney Pirates picture, or whatever (...plus, I keep being like, "Well, my plan for that was just to buy a Snow White costume, take off the skirt, and wear capris and boots...sooo if I wear my skinny jeans and Chucks, instead, that can TOTALLY be hipster!Snow White!!").

OKAY. Now that I have actually seen Scott Pilgrim in its entirety (I totally started from the beginning again, too, idek) -- uhhh, I liked it, but I didn't love it??

I mean, like, well, first off, I COULD NOT GIVE TWO SHITS about Scott and Ramona and their weepy-ass love story (actually, lulz, you should have seen my face as I watched, about halfway through it got very, "is this a kissing book???"
What I DID love, though, was all (...well, most of) the little supporting characters. Like, Knives was awesome, yeah, okay, but then, also, like, WALLACE and YOUNG NEIL and...well, the whole band, actually. And exes 2-4 (though Roxy was my favorite, I think)! ...and Envy, until she stopped being a HBIC and started getting all ~melty~ from Scott's emo powers or whatever.

So, um, yeah (imo), needs moar awesome, less emo...???

Yeah, the movie is okay, but I wasn't OMG I LOVE IT either. It's just harder to get people to read six manga books over a two hour movie, so I tend to push people into seeing the movie first. I mean, not you, but... like, Justin, right.

Dude, ikr, in the books I was the same way. SCOTT IS SO EMO, SHE HAS LEFT HIM, OH NOOOO. I just wanted more Wallace, Lisa (who's not even in the movie but is AWESOMEEEE) and Julie (because of how hilar her bitchiness is) time.

DO YOU WANT TO READ THE BOOKS? YOU SHOULDDDD. I CAN SEND THEM TO YOUUUU.

I never really liked Envy at all, but TODD IS TOTALLY MY FAVORITE EX ALLLLL THE TIMEEEE. And actually Lucas and Roxy are better in the books (and have more uh, page time... or whatever the book version of screen time is), but Todd <33333 FOREVERRRRR.

DUDE, I HAVE ALWAYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LOVED HIM. True story.... Jason Lee would've been har-har hysterically awesome and better casting, but I thought he was good, too. I wasn't headdesking like I was when Cera was cast (and I thought he did better than usual.... considering Cera is ALWAYS himself).

But, like, when I saw Fantastic Four finally I was like, "Ugh, why so charming and Johnny-ish! THIS GUY IS PERFECT." And then I saw Cellular and--WAIT, OKAY, YOU SHOULD SEE THE LOSERS. BECAUSE I HAVEN'T READ THE COMICS YET BUT HIS CHARACTER IS FANTASTICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC.

Also Push because ewanspotter and I may be the only ones who still adore that movie. AND WE NEED TO KEEP HOPE ALIVE. Or something.
