I had a huge rant about how I've dragged through work this week and how the life has been sucked out of me by various things kicking me around just because, or so it feels.

But things don't matter right now. It's a good thing my sister isn't home tonight to poke fun at things like she usually does when I Care Too Muchâ„¢ about someone dying. I grew up on Apple products. My first computer was a Classic II, followed by a Bondi blue iMac that I saved up for. That died my senior year of high school and then I was surprised with the G5 I'm typing this on now. I am saving up for what would be my third iPod, although I still use my very first 3 Gen one as a hard drive. People talk about how their products are overpriced but fuck you, they last.

Anyway, the man had a hand in everything that we do now. If you have an iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac, laptop, etc. you know his influence. But Gestures? The mouse? The desktop GUI? The PDA? Toy Story? CGi-animated movies? Touch screen? I can't even name them all. I can't even really focus. Suffice it to say:

Rest in Peace, Steve Jobs. You will be deeply missed.

Entourage, season 8 )

P.S. I bought this G4 computer during Entourage's first season. My first desktop on it was the official desktop from HBO's website. So this computer has officially outlasted an entire TV show. Go, Ryland!

Big Bang Theory wasn't as funny as I expected it to be. I kinda saw through the whole fanboy-actor fan service idea and the B-story was almost insulting somehow. Eh.

White Collar, though, was better than I expected, although I'm still wondering how the series will unfold. It reminds me of Leverage and Burn Notice and Neal feels like if Barney Stinson and Shawn Spencer merged.

Onto the point of this post. I cleaned out my computers recently and picked up a few tricks and software along the way, so I thought I'd share a few links. I tracked down two Windows equivalents to two Mac-only apps, although try those at your own risk since I haven't (obviously) tested them. Most of them are shareware, but I haven't run into anything besides reminders to pay.

StickyWindows - Back in the days of Mac OS 9 you could turn your windows into tabs along the bottom of your screen and every now and then I'd still catch myself trying to do this. So now there's an app that brings it back! It keeps my desktop cleaner, while still keeping the windows I need right there.
DiskInventoryX - Scans and then presents the contents of your hard drive in a graphical way, so you can see where the space hogs are hiding.
* Windows: WinDirStat and/or SpaceMonger
Hazel - NEAT MAINTENCE UTILITY. It's gold to have, trust me.
* Windows: RoboBasket
OnyX - Runs maintenance tasks, clears out log files, deleted orphaned files-- all in all, it helps un-bloat your system.
AppCleaner - Generally Macs don't use uninstallers, but sometimes things get orphaned if you just throw out the application (preferences, log files, etc.) There's also AppZapper and AppDelete, but AppCleaner doesn't have restrictions on its free-ness. XD

iScreensaver - Make your own screensaver! Available for Mac and Windows. (I'm using this ripped by File2HD.com)
SaveHollywood - Turn any Quicktime file into a screensaver. I used to use this to play movie trailers before, but I don't download trailers much anymore. Every now and then I'll be obnoxious and set a Weebl's video on there.
FadeText - Displays any text as a screensaver. For a while I had filled this with Shoebox quotes, and then I had the lyrics to "Do You Want To Know A Secret?" by The Beatles. :)

Oh geesh. I've been trying not to post every freaking day. But everyone seems to be talking about the Super Bowl. So since everyone else is, here's my two cents:

XLI )

And there's a old school Monk marathon on too. And here I am watching the Super Bowl sans chicken wings (Hooters or mother-made), sans scones, sans anything. But lots of reading material that I must finish for class tomorrow (ten articles by Locke, Rousseau, Kant and their Enlightenment crew that are all at least 2 pages long plus a 2 page "profile" on myself). This day is all kinds of lame.

Although Wild Hogs's trailer? AC/DC! Motorcycles! It's LWR meets Supernatural references. Plus, awesome cast, man. Yayes.

I've only seen two commercials I thought were hysterical, and the latter one was only because it was so slashy. But beer commercials are FTW. No Clydesdales this year though! Budweiser, what's up with this?? But this year there's YouTube, so they'll all most likely be up by tomorrow. And then I'll link you all to them. Plus the awesome Chevy commerical that was like "If you love cars, you love Chevy." HAHA Need I say anything else?

I'm annoyed by my torrent of "Bloodlust". It won't let me cap that first scene of the Metallicar, and I want an animated icon of the rims.

And you know you're a Mac Addict when you see this picture, this picture and this picture and the first things you say are "OMG he has a Powerbook/iMac." and "OMG there's a iPod shuffle ad on that billboard back there!" I know I'm not normal.

I'll post some more music tonight... this will most likely be a nightly thing.
