General: I know what series Eric Kripke loves. Definitely. All we need is Lily being BBQ's and we're good.

I don't get the Snarry shippers at all, but what I did ship back in 7th grade (Draco/Dudley and Harry/Hermione) are still there. Luna hasn't popped up yet but already I'm shipping her with fifty different people. Ravenclaw girls are awesome. Throw in Ginny and Hermione and you've got most of the combinations. I don't see a het or slash pairing anywhere that I like-- so far. Lockhart was odd. Most of the characters are easily distinguishable. Their descriptions in my mind's eye fit the casting most of the time. I knew what Sirius, Remus, Luna, Cho, Cedric, etc. looked like before I read about them. But I saw Chamber of Secrets. And I guess it was a while ago because reading Lockhart's description he sounds more like Rupert Everett's Prince Charming than Branagh, who looks like a blonde Liberace on the HP wiki page.

Lavender Brown makes me start humming "Golden Brown" and I wonder if perhaps she was related ;)

Sorcerer's Stone: I read the first book so many ages ago. I can't remember if I could figure things out before everyone else. I do remember that the only thing I was bitter about when I saw the movie was that they messed with the ending sequence. And I didn't think Radcliffe's eyes were the right color (aren't Harry's green?) and Hermione looked nothing like I imagined her, but Emma did a good job of winning me over.

Chamber of Secrets: I saw the movie before I read the book, but I saw the movie so long ago that I forgot most of it. I do remember Myrtle and lots of blue scenes in chambers and bathrooms. But the first mention of a girl who died was obviously Myrtle. It's sort of coincidence that they meet whoever is going to be necessary for the big battle in that particular book. The teachers for Defense of the Dark Arts are shaping up exactly that way. The descriptions of the petrified people confused me. I thought Mrs. Norris was dead until everyone started getting petrified and I realized that she wasn't. I remember seeing a lot of icons about Fawkes, and I'm wondering what the deal with him was. Did people not get why he was named Fawkes? Unless something pops up later. And Riddle's name is RIDDLE. What else would it be but a riddle. I've noticed Rowling does that clever hinting with the names. It's cute but it doesn't help much if you're trying to be surprised (Lupin, anyone?)

And when did Nearly Headless Nick get cured of the petrified state? I read when everyone else was cured. And I kind of miss him. He doesn't seem to pop up later-- and John Cleese doesn't have anything on his IMDB page. I liked Nick. :(

Prisoner of Azkaban: The grammar is still annoying me but I'm just guessing it's a British way of writing. ("She sneaked" instead of "She snuck"?) And they forget to come back around to certain things or describe certain scenes and I can't understand what's going on until elsewhere (Ron/Hermione actually making up, where Harry drops the cape and picks it up various times). I'm going to assume that the Dementors sucked the soul out of Voldemort? And that's why he's... like that. I knew that Sirius was good and Scabbers was bad but I had assumed that Scabbers would end up being Voldemort's animagus-- forgetting that he is obviously a snake (it's so biblical this series). The series is still as captivating. Poor Ron though it all works out eventually.

Goblet of Fire: First chapter in and WHAAAAAAAAAAA.

(7.25.07) ETA: Now I'm confused. Harry was a year old when Voldemort attacked him? A year old baby would somehow be traumatized by that experience, even if he has no obvious memory of it. And anyway, how is Harry half-blood when both his parents were wizards? Lily had Muggle parents, but how does that interfere with Harry's bloodline? Unless Lily had one magical parent. But then Harry would be a quarter-blood, not half-blood. As it stands, this half-blood accusation bothers me. So many of the classmates are adorable, like the Creevey brothers (more Dennis than Colin, although I like Colin too), Neville (how much do I ADORE HIM OMG) and Cedric. I was spoiled for him though, so OH MY HEART. I like Cedric because he's not just the popular jock of the school. I guess that's why he's in Hufflepuff, but I like that he's one of those model-handsome boys who are hindered by their looks, not boosted by it. Dobby is basically Jar Jar Binks (NOT the equivalent of Smegol) and continues to annoy the hell out of me. And it looks like he pops up in OOTP because the reviews seem to be wondering where he is. Also, Sirius Black is made of awesome and having glanced at the HP wiki Sunday night, I didn't want to read OOTP :( I understand Snape's POV on Potter. And I'm starting to think the trio is full of BS. I've been a part of a trio of friends before and no way does the friendship stay past seven years EVER. But I guess that's the fantasy for ya.

The triwizard tournament maze kept making me go, "Harry, the key is RLL RRL!"

Also: Sirius is a godfather. There's a hospital called St. Mungo's. Since when was religion established in the wizarding world? And Percy seems to have a LOT of ambition. Fck the what? And he's in Gryffindor?

Order of the Phoenix: I'm sure someone has noticed that Padfoot = Martha's Vineyard? I think I remember someone saying that, but all I can think of is Sam Winchester's whippet shirt and that's the wrong memory. :P Anyway, Harry scared me at first here. He's so angry and I knew that it had to do something with sharing his blood with Voldemort. And if everyone's so concerned about purebloods, someone tell them that they're basically inbred. Not healthy!

What confused me most about OOTP is the way it was written. Ron isn't living up to Wood's standards? Unless they mean Harry was comparing Ron against the old standards, I'm pretty sure Wood has already graduated. And the threstrals have no pupils but still stare. How the hell do you know where they're looking? I apparently missed the part where Anti-Moody gives Harry back his Maurader's Map. And I like that Sirius and James are mentioned throughout the book by first name, while Pettigrew is mentioned by nickname (Wormtail) and Lupin by last name. If you assume they're called by what Harry knows them best by, that's fine but then Pettigrew could possibly be called Scabbers ;)

That last dizzying ordeal of the Dept. of Mysteries is so ripped from the final dungeon of a Legend of Zelda game. I could almost hear the "you opened the door/figured out the puzzle" sound whenever Harry opened a door.

OH HELL NO. NEVILLE WILL NOT DIE. I FORBID THIS. NOT AFTER SIRIUS GOES DOWN AND DUMBLEDORE.

I'm starting to understand Hermione/Draco but I got really confused by Remus/Tonks. Isn't Tonks a teenager? So it's another offshot ship of teacher/student ships. Gotcha. But look! I'm finding cracky ships just like usual. Right now, Moody/Snape is amusing me. As well as Harry/Neville.

(7.27.07) ETA: Half-Blood Prince: Okay, this one had me good. I was pretty much certain that the "Half-Blood Prince" was actually Voldemort. I kept wondering why everyone was over-looking the obvious. However, I have started crushing on Alan Rickman ever since I saw Die Hard and after the memory of James Potter bullying Snape I fell in love with Snape too. Therefore I refuse to believe that Snape is evil. Still, the reveal was a bit too hasty for me, as if Rowling had just remembered, "Oh yeah, I never explained who he was. Okay, reveal now!" My love for Snape could also be why I think that there wasn't enough of him in this book. That concerns me when it comes to the movie. Rickman is obviously not a cheap buy, so are they going to switch things around to get their money's worth? I don't know much about the contracts and salaries for the actors. And WHY HARDLY ANY NEVILLE?! Luna... is okay. She reminds me of me A LOT and how people seem to perceive me, but I don't think I'm that brutally honest to people I hardly know.

The grammar is still hurting me. WTF is "misty fugs" and "gawping"? Does "phial" = "vial"? AND CAN SLUGHORN STOP WITH THE PINEAPPLES? That is strictly for Shawn! And wtf is "crystallized" pineapple!? Is that like crushed?

I'm happy that the trio does almost break up and Harry does recognize that Ron and Hermoione could destroy the trio, if only for a fleeting second. I'm actually surprised that Harry never saw Hermione as a girl like Ron did. Or maybe that's just my experience throwing my foot in my mouth? Cho Chang was never really a girlfriend of Harry's to begin with. All they did was date about twice. Maybe it's different in Britain, but when you only kiss lightly and then go out on V Day and the girl leaves in tears and you never speak again... that's not a relationship.

About the re-casting of Lavender Brown. If I am assuming the girl next to Parvati in SS (the only movie I have) is Lavender, I wonder why they feel the need to re-cast. She seems perfectly decent to carry on for the HBP movie. If they're going to re-cast due to that snogging scene detail, why didn't Rowling explain her mind's vision of Lavender Brown before?

And Parseltongue. Can Dumbledore understand the Parseltongue in the memories? Is Harry translating it for him and had someone translated for Dumbledore previously? Because otherwise, the fact that Dumbledore is showing Harry memories that Dumbledore can only half-understand is a bit off.

LOL "his insides were dancing the conga."

Deathly Hallows *theories* Everyone seems to think that Harry is a horcrux? That confused me because my understanding was that someone needed to die to be a Horcrux. But then all these inanimate objects were horcruxes so I had to go back and re-read again. The fact that Draco and Tonks were both withering over the course of HBP didn't help my perception. And the constant references to Lupin's increasingly grey hair.

I know the trio and Ginny stays alive and apparently so is Neville? *beams* IDK then. We shall see.

(8.1.07) ETA: Deathly Hallows: Overall, awesome. I kept getting questions and then they would get answered a chapter or so later and I'd be like, "Oh, well thanks for that." I clearly need to be patient.

I love the idea of the underground effort to support Harry. I ADORE the codenames on Potterwatch too. Romulus and River and Royal. Perfect, just perfect.

I don't understand why they keep flopping the name of the Deluminator. In some of the books I firmly recall it being a "Put-Outter." And why does there need to be two terms for Apparating? That was annoying me a bit.

On the ship front, it seems everyone got abit of something in this book, no? Whether it was a line ("...Ginny's lips on his--", "Come here Ron so I can do you--", "For him?") or scene or epilogue or a whole freaking chapter (33 FTW! AND YOU CAN'T TELL ME OTHERWISE) And my brain was in the gutter many times with those lines, as you can probably tell by the ones I remembered.

One problem they're going to have with the movie is due to the Snitch. I don't recall Wood having full gloves on while demonstrating the rules of Quidditch to Harry. And speaking of the Hallows, I want my own Beetle the Bard storybook! The Hallows story is slightly reminsicent of the Billygoats Gruff tale, no? Wizard fairytales seem much darker than normal tales, but then again, the original fairytales are far darker than anything Disney throws at us.

I bet the trio wished they had some Felix after those ten or so chapters in the forest. Dumbledore's patronus is a phoenix? Is this because of Fawkes, or did he get Fawkes because of his patronus? And Hedwig. Damnit, I did not know about Hedwig or Dobby but WTF. Who gets away with killing Hedwig? I'm sorely angry about that. You have no idea. Once I finished that chapter Saturday, I didn't continue to read the book until Tuesday. Dobby was pretty cool in his final act. I was all about to say, "Alright, I forgive you for being Jar Jar-ish," but then he got shish-kebobbed.

Where'd Wood come from at the Hogwarts battle? And tell me that didn't play out in your head like the battle of Helm's Deep!High School. And why doesn't Snape get a headmaster portrait!? I was a bit sad about that. "Not my daughter, you bitch!" = BEST LINE EVER.

What happened to the rest of the Weasleys? And the Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes? And who the hell was Teddy supposed to be snogging, Bill and Fleur's kid? Half the names I didn't quite understand though, like Rose and Hugo. And OMG, Albus Severus is the best 3rd gen-er ever. It's a toss up between him and Teddy Lupin. And BTW, how does the lore work with werewolves here? If Greyback died (and did he bite Lavender?) would all those he turned be cured?

Harry mentions that he's shaping up to be the godfather that Sirius was to him. What else do they have in common? Oh yeah, losing their parents early on. Way to swing that circle around, Rowling.

In closing: AR is going to kick this movie senseless. Sorry, my mind is one track recently.

Sorcerer's Stone: It's way shorter than I remember it being, and wow, Radcliffe sucked back then. Everyone else was awesome, especially Watson. That's Hermione to a tee.

Chamber of Secrets: I pictured Mrs. Weasley a lot thinner than she is in the movies, but she's played how I pictured so that's okay. The poor lady who plays Sprout! Everytime I saw her all I did was go, "Juliet!!!!!!!" And I pictured Colin a bit more dirty blond, but he's just as adorable. I'm still amused at how my efforts to read makes me mispronounce names so much that I always seem to go, "WTH, there's another syllable there?"

Prisoner of Azkaban: They could've done with more explaining in the Shrieking Shack and less OMG-I'm-flying-on-Buckbeak. Also please explain the Marauder nicknames! And suddenly Draco is shifting into Lassiter's mannerisms. It took me a while to catch who Felton was reminding me of.

And I understand the Remus/Sirius now. Yeah. And Pettigrew's clothes... he had them when he changed to human form, but he left them when he ran away.

And you know, explain where the hell the Firebolt came from.

Goblet Of Fire: WTF WAS THAT. It was like the book on speed. No one explained about the Veelas, never shows anything about anyone being concerned outside of the school. No one explained what portkeys were, or the scoring of the TriWizard tournament-- much less the idea that the egg was a clue. And how does popping up Muppet-like in a fire count as billing for Oldman? Apparently the cost of the celebrities don't count for this franchise. So I doubt Snape gets a bump up for HBP. Draco either.

How can such long movies be so utterly anemic?

Order of the Phoenix: That's how you do a movie! After GOF, anything would have pleased me, though. I didn't like that the Patil twins kept changing Houses! Dude, one's in Gryffindor, the others in Ravenclaw. I'm glad they gave Neville all Dobby's stuff and LOL Kreacher isn't as curmudgeonly as I envisioned. And I was confused that perhaps people didn't get why Arthur knew his way around the MoM. And would it have killed them to put it at least one, "Wotcher, Harry"?

I wanted to see young Lily, but young Snape looks like Jon Tucker!

I don't understand most of the shippers that are in the fandom. I don't pretend. I really hate the shipping sometimes. There are just certian ships that make no sense to me what so ever.

To the eye color thing. Dan can't wear the color contacts for some reason. Least that is what I have heard. Why they can't color his eyes with a computer or something I don't know.

Lockhart seriously got on my nerves.

On the whole importnace of names thing. Sometimes people seriously just don't know or they don't take the time to look them up. I would be in the latter. Without the Hp Lexicon I would be lost. :)

Shipping, I've found lately, is a very serious subject to some people. I've decided I'm not going to discuss my ships anymore. It doesn't seem to work for me.

Ah, he probably has astigmatism. But still, they have contacts for that, so that's not it. Weird.

I think he was meant to, but I'm kind of happy with what happens to him. He deserved it.

The HP wiki is where I've been off to most times- the one at harrypotter.wikia.com though, because most of the time I've been looking for how my mind's eye coincides with the film versions, and the other HP wiki doesn't seem to have pictures.

"Harry, the key is RLL RRL!" That just made me giggle. Harry you're so dumb listen to Lia's advice. :P

Slughorn mentions pineapples?? Man I need to read that book again. Now Shawn should burst in claim back the pineapples. Seriously man no one is allowed the pineapple stuff but Shawn. Also Shawn in boxers. Squee.

POA=BEST HP MOVIE !! Yes I am totally biased but you there you go. Though the first two stay really really close to the books, which is awesome.

HBP better be freaking awesome movie or I will feel the need to bitch and sue WB.

Lia I think you just killed me with the understanding the Hermione/Draco. Resist the tempation to ever ship them please!!

I kept imagining Harry in a poker tournament and then I started laughing because I imagined Shawn and Gus being one of his objects to pass.

Yeah, apparently Riddle kept giving him pineapples in boxes. I have no idea why.

Why are you biased? I thoroughly enjoyed that book the most, then OOTP and then HBP... weirdly enough POA was the only book I listened to completely on audiobook. I'm trying to cast HBP and I'm having a hard time. Tough deal...

Well, I get it, but it was a fleeting moment. I don't think there's many ships that I'm going to go crazy about (almost said loony) but there's still one more book for me.

Ha ha. Crossovers for the win!!

Riddle and his pineapples of evil.

Oh I love that book but let's say that the movie leaves out a lot as in some important stuff and well it is still my favorite. Basically it didn't go into detail about Prongs, Moony, Padfoot, and Wormtail were and all that. When you see it you will see what I mean. So to be honest it's Draco. I'm sorry. I blame my inner fangirl. Though the second movie messed up things too. Though that was more of changing things then leaving important stuff out. I could go into a long list of all the changes in the movies but I am sure tons of the fans already have.

Oh man. See, since I read all the books so quickly, I want to see the movies as quickly (hurry up Amazon!) I noticed how short the first movie seems in comparison, and I can only imagine how the rest of the movies play out. Actually, I rented the POA movie but it wouldn't run past chapter 23 and I haven't rewatched COS, so I didn't keep the movie and just ordered all three online. But what I did see of it, Draco was pretty good. HBP should be an awesome Draco movie. I like Felton's acting better than Radcliffes anyway.

Yeah.Goblet leaves a lot out though it is mostly the secondary plot points. SPEW and the house elf stuff. OOTP felt like it was an hour or something. Though I did miss some of it when we went to the movies so maybe that is why. Just remember that the movies are just there to be pretty and enjoy what you can. You will drive yourself nuts picking out everything that was left out. Just a tip. Though I do it like crazy too and the more I nit pick the more Goblet and OOTP bug me.

And yeah movie people if you leave any important stuff out of HBP I will offically be pissed. That movie should be awesome. Espically since Draco was only in OOTP for like two minutes and had like two lines!!! I am still going to get the dvd though just to see the extra scenes they cut. Sorry not trying to ruin it for you. That movie just really rushed. Going to see it again so maybe I will have a better review for it.

Yeah I think the SS movie just fudged one of the plot points of DH. I can't remember if Wood handles the Snitch when he's showing the Quidditch balls off to Harry before the game. Did he have gloves?

Draco's important to HBP, so he better show up. He's hardly in the book, but still. Yeah, I can't wait for the DVDs to get here already. It's taking longer than usual.

Date: 2007-07-29 06:16 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] vampira34.livejournal.com
Yeah good point. Bad on their part. I don't think he was wearing gloves but I don't really remember. Another thing is that the movies left out Bill and Charlie. So umm not sure what they are going to do when it comes around to do the DH movie. Unless it is like oh this is Bill and Charlie and well they didn't show up in any of the other movies but we are going to cram them in to stay with the plot. Though would look like Jo would tell them not to let Wood touch the snitch even if she didn't go into detail why. Unless that is just something they are going to change just for the movies.

See I haven't reread OOTP so I can't remember how much he shows up and course I only read HBP once Need to get on rereading those once I finish DH. Hope the dvds get there soon. You are getting the two disk ones right?

Date: 2007-08-02 07:22 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com
Yeah, I noticed the lack of Bill and Charlie and also the lack of explaining Percy's new allegiance. And yeah, they'll probably not mention the flesh memory at all in the movie.

Yup I woke up Monday and they were all here. So I watched all the movies that day, and went to see OOTP today. FINALLY caught up :P I just need to watch the extras.

The Patil twins have always been in Gryffindor in the movies. Not sure why the movie people did that. Other then hating on the Ravenclaw house. Would it of killed them to stick to canon? The movie was better the second time around. Not sure why though. And to the Lily thing. She was in promo pictures that's what keeps confusing me.Unless there is an extended version of that scene then I am going to be mad. I just don't see why they cut her part!!

Glad you are caught up now. I need to hurry up and finish DH.

I... thought she did? Maybe I was seeing things or remembering the other movies. They did cast a girl as Young Lily though, so she must've been in there somewhere... if not as Mom-in-Mirror-of-Erised.

Cool. It usually takes me an hour to read a chapter or two, but sometimes I zone out and need to take a break here and there.

OKAY, I AM ALSO LATE TO COMMENT ON THIS POST, BUT.

UM HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO REMUS/SIRIUS IS CLEARLY OTP WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU.

And anyway, how is Harry half-blood when both his parents were wizards? Lily had Muggle parents, but how does that interfere with Harry's bloodline?

That's exactly it. Lily's parents didn't have magical parents, which makes her a Muggle-born witch, and since James came from a wizarding family, technically, Harry is a half-blood. Get it?

Dobby is basically Jar Jar Binks (NOT the equivalent of Smegol) and continues to annoy the hell out of me.

Remus/Sirius? Err. okay.

I clearly am lost with the wizarding bloodlines, what the frak. So Lily's own blood as a wizard doesn't count as wizard blood?! Her powers just randomly generate, like Hermy's, and it doesn't count?

NEVILLE. <333 He's now my favorite character. It used to be Ron, but then he kind of got moved towards the bottom of the totem pole after this one incident that made me pissed at him, but then he redeemed himself, but still Neville FTW.

What happened to the rest of the Weasleys? And the Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes? And who the hell was Teddy supposed to be snogging, Bill and Fleur's kid?

I posted this thing on my LJ that had this transcript of a chat JKR and she answered some questions on it. Except she's supposed to be a making an encyclopedia of the other characters.

Link to transcript:
http://community.livejournal.com/everything_dh/31720.html

Oh, and Fred's death PISSED ME OFF. lol, Actually it made me more sad then pissed.. but both. The twins were my fave characters after Neville and i was i was SO sure none of the Weasleys would die. I guess I jinxed them or something. *tear*

Goblet Of Fire: WTF WAS THAT. It was like the book on speed

ROFL. Yeah, it was. That's probably one of my least fave HP movies (which sucks because i really loved GoF the book) but I still liked the movie anyway.. kind of. How sad was Cedric's death tho?! I cried. lol, i think it's confirmed that i cry too much, lmao. =P

I wanted to see young Lily, but young Snape looks like Jon Tucker!
LOL! I didn't notice what young!Snape looked like... Snape's memory thing on the movie was SOO incredibly short. WTH.

And the only thing that made me mad about the 5th movie was that they didn't put the hospital scene in (which i really wanted to see) and they took out a bunch of Neville's and Ron's parts that i was hoping would be in the movie. But i got over it and still liked the movie, lol.

Anyways.. the 7th movie be REALLY (x 1000) good. Ditto with the 6th.

Harry is a half-blood because his mother was born to a Muggle family. A pureblood is someone who has decended straight down a line of witches and wizards, with no Muggles in the family.

And Deathly Hallows is sooooooo good.

Ah. Well I guess that makes sense in a way. Hail to the inbreds... I guess...

I could imagine!

Yeah, pretty much all purebloods are inbred to some extent. Most people will be like, "Okay, Harry was a half-blood, and he had a kid with a pureblood, that equals a pureblood," but for Voldypants and co., that equals half-blood.

Yeah, well Voldy and co. were always a bit too traditional with their values... boo on them.

That's why they're the villains. Ah, logic.

Harry was supposed to be in Slytherin anyway, lol. He's no better than them. Ick.

So true! His determination not to be Slytherin only makes him more so.

Ok, out of all the things you wrote, I don't know why I'm choosing to comment on this, but Tonks isn't a teenager. She's just the youngest member of the Order.

lol, yeah I can see that now. In OOTP, in my mind, she looked about nineteen. But I guess she's like mid-20s or whatever. OMG, I've been saying "wotcher" a lot too. Damn, Tonks.
