For all you writers out there... (and especially musicians and poets) how do you deal with how the words starts to come to you?

Usually I'm just sitting around when I start getting lines of poetry in my head. So I grab either a pad or open TextEdit (whichever is closest) and just go. Hopefully I can get some semblance of a poem out before I run dry, but sometimes I don't. And when it just stops, the piece always looks half done. But I can never get myself to merge it with something else. They're all their own creatures in a way. How do you deal with that?

And sometimes I'm tired and want to go to sleep or I'm terribly busy at the moment and can't write them down. Then I feel like they're lost in the proverbial wind of my mind. Because I can never remember them exactly the way they were later on. I assume a song that's born by music first is just as frustrating, yeah?

I just wrote three different half-done poems in ten minutes, wth.

And hey, it's been ages since I've done Six Degrees. So give me some people to match up! If you don't know what Six Degrees is, here's an example:

Vanessa Marcil and Billy Crudup: Vanessa Marcil - The Rock - Nicolas Cage - 8MM - Joaquin Phoenix - Inventing the Abbotts - Billy Crudup

Most the time, something hits me and I just start writing. Sometimes in wordpad but most the time in a notebook. When the words stop coming, I leave it alone for days at a time then pick it back up and read over it. Sometimes I fix it and then just start adding to it because the muse starts back up again. I try not to force it because then it usually ends up being crap and I just throw it away. Yeah stinks if you don't write it down right away. Sometimes you can remember bits and pieces, but unless you get it down an that second when the muse hits it's pretty much lost.

Have you done Jensen and James Roday? Or is that too many degrees? I can 't think right now.

I usually read over things too much. So maybe leaving it alone for a few days is better. I should try that!

I don't think I have. I never really know how to count the degrees... if it's every person = one degree or if the movies count too. So maybe I go beyond six degrees sometimes. Jensen's usually hard because he's been in so few movies, but luckily the movies he has been in has more popular stars.

Jensen Ackles - Blonde - Patrick Dempsey - Sweet Home Alabama - Reese Witherspoon - Legally Blonde - Luke Wilson - Alex & Emma - Cloris Leachman - Beerfest - James Roday

It really works. I have found poems from years ago and rewrote them on the computer and added to them and made them better. Sometimes if you read over something to many times without taken a break you either can't think because you are focusing too much or whatever. If you let it set and forget about it , the next time you read over it is fresh and new and you see things in a different way.

Did you see Big Brother last night? What was that Jen's problem. Man it was just a freaking picture you don't need to get all emo over it. I was seriously trying not to giggle over that. Man if she is having a hard time over a stupid picture she isn't going to last long in the house.

That does make sense. Sometimes I need to relax and forget about it. But then I feel like I'll forget the rhythm I ws going for or the state of mind I was in. I guess the trick is a short hiatus but not too long.

Yeah that girl just lost any support from me with that. And that blonde chick, not Daniele but the other one. She seemed so ditzy when she was trying to explain things.

I really don't know how to help you there because I never write anything.

Have you tried Ewan McGregor and Jensen Ackles? I actually have no idea if that's possible or not or how many steps it would take. It's just something I thought about doing for quite sometime and never got around to.

:DD

Ewan is the easiest to connect to anything! He's almost like a key. If I can connect someone to him, anything opens up.

Ewan - Black Hawk Down - Josh Hartnett - 40 Days and 40 Nights - Shannyn Sossamon - Devour - Jensen.

i admire you for liking to write poetry. poetry has always perplexed me -- either because i'm not talented enough to write it or i've read too much emo teenage poetry in my years.

when i write stories, i don't try and go for length. i just write, and when the words stop, they stop and that's simply it. maybe you're going to end up making your own style where you just stop mid-sentence and it'll be like, this great take on modern culture where people read it while wearing turtlenecks and drinking coffee without sugar and snapping their fingers at good lines and then writing their own endings, because art and stuff in the end is what we make it.

I don't know how to consider poetry "emo" but I guess mine is? I've only written about ten really dark poems and the rest are mostly about yearning and past relationships/friendships. I don't know.

Haha, that's perfect. Yeah I usually just write and oddly they all come out about the same length-- never above 3,000.

I keep a notebook with me at all times when I'm not near a computer, so I always have something to write thoughts and stuff down. And I keep a tape recorder near my bed because sometimes when I'm half asleep I think of something but don't want to get up and write it down, so I just say it into the recorder.

Here, okay, try this one: Samuel L. Jackson and Brad Pitt. It's actually really easy, but my friends and I were trying to do it on the train ride home from NYC the other night, and it seriously took us FOREVER.

OH ALSO. I keep meaning to tell you and then forgetting, but Amy Winehouse is on the cover of Spin!! I don't know about the article or anything, but I saw the magazine while we were wasting time in Penn Station, and thought of you.

I HAVE NOT! IT'S LIKE THE ONE DISNEY CARTOON I HAVEN'T SEEN. IT LOOKED SO LAME AT THE TIME, BUT IT HAS ELTON JOHN MUSIC, RIGHT? SO IT CAN'T BE THAT BAD.

LOLOL I LOVE IT.

From: [personal profile] splits_thesky
OKAY. FIRST OF ALL! IT'S A DREAMWORKS MOVIE, NOT A DISNEY ONE. BUT Y, ALL ELTON JOHN SONGS! AND THERE'S ONLY ONE SONG THAT THE ACTUAL CHARACTERS SING, WHICH IS GREAT, BECAUSE ON THE "MAKING OF..." FEATURETTE, YOU GET, LIKE, 10 MINUTES OF EVERYONE MAKING FUN OF KEVIN KLINE AND KENNETH BRANAGH'S SINGING SKILLZ. HIGH-LARIOUS!!
BUT ALSO, IT IS SERIOUSLY ONE OF THE FUNNIEST MOVIES EVER. I'VE SEEN IT A COUPLE TIMES NOW, AND IT NEVER STOPS BEING FUNNY. SRSLY, KILLS ME EVERY TIME!! IT'S ALSO REALLY, REALLY PRETTY AND WELL-ANIMATED. PLUS, SUPER GAY!! ONCE YOU SEE THE MOVIE, YOU CAN READ THE SHIP MANIFESTO (OVER AT [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto, ROFL), BUT YOU TOTALLY DON'T EVEN NEED THAT TO SEE THE GAY IN THIS MOVIE. SERIOUSLY, SO GAY.

I keep a notebook in my purse, but I only really write random phrases or ideas in there, and tear out the page as soon as it makes it into a text file on my flash drive. And I usually just write in that text file until, yeah, I run out of ideas, then let it sit. And yeah, I go from there.

...that probably wasn't helpful at all D:

Haha I do that same thing. I even shop for other notebooks just so I always have one :D But that's a good idea about the file on your flash drive. I never did that before.
