Nov. 16th, 2009 11:32 pmThis is a great link about RPF and fandom. I agree with her points and a lot of the later comments bring up some amazing points that blew my mind. I missed most of Brothers & Sisters when it aired because I was busy sitting around processing things they brought up about characterization in RPF.
Also, I didn't take that part of the Supernatural episode mentioned that way, but considering the pictures it reminded me of, I think it shows how slow I am (especially because I'm always saying Dean=Jared more than Jensen).
Supernatural: I was so worried about this episode, I thought I was going to watch it through my fingers. TMATEOTB was okay, Sympathy For The Devil was just a tad more "do not want." I've learned to like Becky though. As much as I hate what she stands for, I want her around much, much more. And not because of the random tip at the end.
I didn't get why LARP!Sam had a Batman voice too, but I was hoping at least one Sam would have an insane wig or the like. But then, there goes what I said last week about Dean's hair because NOBODY HAD FABIO HAIR. lol, thank you, Kripke for salting and burning that nagging voice in my head.
I was hoping someone would call Dean on his chick flick moments, but they didn't. But I enjoyed that the LARPers called Dean Bobby because the moment they said "Bobby and Rufus" I went, "DEAN IS BOBBY, SAM IS RUFUS." And how did they know which graves to salt and burn? Was that on the map? I was waiting for them to find out where the three boys were and then the ghosts disappeared (and I thought it was because of Cas for a second) and they were salting and burning. That part lost me.
It all reminded me of Provenance and Playthings (some of those sets were totally from Playthings) too.
I love Chuck and Becky together too, they're adorable. I see what you did there, Kripke/fandom. I won't even touch the other relationship (lol... LOL), although I expected more bitching about Dean's reaction to it than it seems to have created.
Also? Croatoan virus for "down there"? HERPEXIA.
I didn't mean to notice but that scene of Dean leaning over the Impala made me notice and what, where did Dean's ring go. *hides*
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: I'M NOT ALLOWED, DEE. I'M NOT ALLOWEDDDDDDD.
My dad and I were cracking up over this entire episode. I love Dee becoming the cat lady and Mac being the woman coming in to clean up Charlie and Frank's house, Dennis and Mac breaking up and none of it ever being truly sexual but always about gender roles. I love it.
White Collar: Definitely better than the last two episodes, but it could be better still. Like
vampira34 said, it was pretty much one for the shippers and nothing more.
Brothers & Sisters: Better than it has been lately, if not utterly predictable. I like Robert's lack of reaction to Kitty's baldness. That was sweet.
How I Met Your Mother: I want Claire to be part of the gang. :(
The He's Not Coming should be called Sleepless in Seattle.
DON IS CUTE. ♥_♥ I APPROVE OF YOUR TASTE, ROBIN. I mean, besides Gael.
Also, anyone want to be a beta? I've got one original fiction, two How I Met Your Mother fanfictions (Barney/Robin and Ted/Marshall/Lily), and one each of Leverage (Parker/Hardison), Push (Nick/older!Cassie), Brother & Sisters (Justin/Rebecca) and Supernatural (gen) fics. I know
xphoenixrising and
wandersfound expressed interest, but I don't want you to feel obligated ;) If anyone's interested, PM/e-mail me with your e-mail address and I'll send you the fics... sometime on Wednesday because tomorrow is Diggnation in NYC again and I have running around to do beforehand so I probably won't be online at all tomorrow.

Date: 2009-11-18 08:34 pm (UTC)I don't think I'll ever understand fully the reason people in fandom get disgusted by RPF, because I do, essentially, just see it as original fiction. And when people comment on it being so "in character" they're referring to the fanon perception of people, not the actual people. I think if anything, that would be most upsetting, like finding out everyone thinks you're a douchebag or everyone "knows" you're a ditzy bicycle? Their public personas (the basis for fanon) are partly their own fault, so I laugh if those kinds of celebrities get mad. Don't get angry at fandom for picking up on your bad/embarrassing habits.
But maybe it doesn't seem that weird to me because that's how I started writing, you know, writing about my friends and different dreams and fantasies (not at the same time D:). I can understand why people not from the fandom world would be a bit creeped out like Sam and Dean were, but not why they'd be angry.
I feel bad that that's the media's perception too. I feel awkward when slashers are mentioned, even though I have different ships across the board.

Date: 2009-11-19 11:48 pm (UTC)Except be super-awkward whenever fandom is mentioned. There's fans everywhere that are always misrepresented in mainstream media though.

Date: 2009-11-17 09:08 am (UTC)I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I clicked those links. Idk why I didn't think about that but lol. Lol.
That essaything on RPF is interesting. I've never been sure how I feel on RPF, but I sort've figure... if people want to write it, fine, but if they don't make it hard to find, they can't really freak out when people find it... whoever those people are.
Oh, and I'd still be willing to beta. I only know HIMYM and SPN (mostly SPN) of those fandoms, so I couldn't do much more than beta-ing for grammar or whatever on the others, but I'd be happy to look anything over. My email's sparrowlove[at]comcast[dot]net

Date: 2009-11-18 08:12 pm (UTC)I've never understood why people freak out over it. But then again, I've never seen the wrong side of RPF either so I'm probably just a horrible person. XD
Awesome, thanks. I'll send them to you soon-ish!

Date: 2009-11-17 11:39 pm (UTC)Although she and Chuch do make adorables. I'm glad she's moved on from Sam and that he'll make it through somehow. XD
The little kids from this one creeped me the f*ck out! You could tell they were heavily make-uped and everything, but there's something about a tiny person and a machete that doesn't set well with me. Why did that woman keep knives where they could reach them?!
Personally, I think they used Batman voices because of the hyper-manliness that is probably running rampant throughout the books. Although it does lead to confusion when you take into account Sam's innate sensitivity.
"Give 'em the puppy eyes Sammy." Lol.
All in all fair episode that took me completely by surprise (I didn't look up titles or descriptions on this one).

Date: 2009-11-18 07:42 pm (UTC)Kids with knives shouldn't sit well with anyone, least of all when they're in a horror story. Never ends well!
True. I would assume Chuck being the sensitive guy he is would over-compensate when writing Sam and Dean. I guess Sam has more qualities of Chuck's.
I think it's kinda weird to have so many silly episodes in a row leading up to a hiatus, but perhaps the next one will be a whammy.
