Just got back from seeing Shorts and it was hysterical and adorable. I've seen like three Kat Dennings movies this week (The House Bunny and Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist are on cable TV now :DD). My life is a happy one. My dad and I keep having conversations about Tarantino and Rodriguez and the differences between the two and I think I might just make a picspam about my favorite things about the two. But that's for another time.

I also thought about Inglourious Basterds some more and I think it lands third in my Tarantino list. The list goes Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Death Proof. I haven't seen Jackie Brown and I don't count Four Rooms or that scene in Sin City (also, if we're counting writing-wise, True Romance comes before Inglourious Basterds and Natural Born Killers comes after Pulp Fiction.)

Every time I see the ads for this Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie coming out, I bristle. Everyone's clamoring about the Where The Wild Things Are movie, but that book was so short and so devoid of storyline (this is the story: Kid gets sent to bed without supper. Dreams about being the king of monsters. Wakes up) that you could develop the characters in any way and it would probably work. But Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs... that one had a story. It had characters and flashbacks and lessons to learn and I don't care if this is supposed to be a prequel movie. That's not the story in the book. But I don't think I know anyone who even heard of the book. I feel like making a vlog where I read the book but like, "Storytime with Lia" doesn't seem like a fascinating idea when you could just go buy the book if you cared that much.

As for a movie I am really excited for, this movie!! I'm one of the maybe ten people in the world who didn't like Arrested Development, so Michael Cera isn't a big draw usually, but I believe he's the only one who could pull this movie off.

It's a TV show that ran three seasons on Fox but everyone still cries foul for because they wanted more seasons.

Jackie Brown is my least favorite Tarantino film (and since you haven't seen it, it counts as yours!), haha. I think my order is this: Reservoir Dogs, Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Death Proof, Jackie Brown. From Dusk Till Dawn can't really count since Rodriguez directed it, and I love the Tarantino segment of Four Rooms, but... again, not the whole movie.

I always see From Dusk Till Dawn as one of Rodriguez' so I always forget it wasn't written by him, and I hate the second half so it's hard to place it correctly. I think it goes after Inglourious Basterds. And Four Rooms is just... its own thing. I like it but it's hard to justify why.

I don't know if I'll ever get around to seeing Jackie Brown, with the way my dad keeps telling me it isn't that good. XD

I love you, braintwin. FDTD is like two different movies. I bought it the other day, since I feel like watching it ALL the time, but as soon as Salma Hayek comes onscreen I turn it off. XD

I grabbed Jackie Brown from the library today. I want to give it another chance. Hee.

haha, IT'S SO WEIRD because being two different movies is usually what makes me end up hating a movie (Vanilla Sky, Moulin Rouge in a way), but it just endears me more to From Dusk Til Dawn. I always think every convenience scene in every movie I watch is trying to be that one scene, it's so iconic to me. But yeah, the moment Salma Hayek pops up I'm all, "ANNNNND THAT'S HOW IT ENDS. GREAT MOVIE. YAYYYY."

Maybe if it's on my Blockbuster queue it'll force me to watch it faster. *does that*

From Dusk Till Dawn is such a weird fucking movie and I love it. Sometimes I wonder what the rest of it would have been like if they had just carried on in the same manner as the first half, y'know? Like I wonder what sort of potential would have been there. We'll never know. :D

I do love it, I just can't figure out where to rank it on the Tarantino scale because he didn't direct it. If I include it, that means I have to include True Romance (and Natural Born Killers), and blah blah blah and it gets so complicated. XD

I KNOW. I spend so much time trying to create an alternate ending to that movie. There's parts of the second half that I can totally be okay with (the random violence, and the bad effects are excused by the era it was made), but then the way the story ends isn't at all what the first part was leading up to and totally not what I was expecting and doesn't make sense! And no fanfiction I've come across has ever really solved that dilemma.

There's no way I can't included True Romance because I like his writing so much. But I had to be fair so I ended up making two lists, ha.

I fucking love True Romance, and I really wish he'd had a chance to actually direct it. I'd love to see how it was SUPPOSED to be. :P

...You've found From Dusk Till Dawn fanfiction?! *hopes it's more than the few pieces she's found*

haha, I know. I hate when things like that happen. What If situations are not great when it comes to movies.

Yeah! I haven't read any in the longest time, but there's a section at fanfiction.net for it and every now and then something pops up on something like [livejournal.com profile] rareslash or [livejournal.com profile] beforeyouwrite but they're never any good. Although these came close.

I think you're missing a lot of the point of Where the Wild Things Are.

Maybe it's because I've taught daycare and I've nannied but that story really does have a message and says a lot. If it didn't it wouldn't still be around.

Oh, I don't think it has no point. I remember thinking the story was pretty magical when I first read it. We just don't know much about the characters, so there's not much that people can say "they got that all wrong!" The movie (by way of the trailer, anyway) seems to get the point of the book. It's been at least two years since I read that book though, so I may be wrong?

The book is really important to me. I mean, it definitely has a lesson. That we don't need to look outside for happiness. That we have it at home (ok not everyone, but you know what I mean). I think they could definitely fuck it up.

I read the book to my niece at least once a week.

I always took it as being about creating your own happiness and learning the power of imagination. I was huge on imagination as a kid so I remember reading and thanking the world because someone out there understood that. I know a lot of kids today who lack creativity and imagination for a number of reasons and I find that really sad because my imagination is what got me through most of my life in one way or another.

In my opinion they've already fucked it up by making a movie. The book isn't that long to need a movie (I usually like books better than movies, but I can at least understand lazy people who don't want to read the book seeing the movie in other cases). I just wish people would respect the book and have kids read that instead of creating a movie that takes longer to watch. It's better when you can decide the adventures Max and the Wild Things go on and not have a movie tell you their everyday adventures. On the other hand, I don't want the movie spending a lot of time outside of the Wild Things world, so I'm conflicted.

I've been meaning to re-read it but I haven't had time to myself lately when there's enough light to read it. It's a good book, but sometimes I think it's overrated. I love it and it's special but it's not the end-all, be-all of children's books.

Haha, I figured you would like that. XD

And now I need to re-watch that skit from your icon. XD
