Boston suggestions and Fall TV pilots

So next weekend [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky and I are off to Boston! It's her birthday the following week, and she wanted to go to Boston? So... we're... doing that. IT SOUNDS SO WEIRD BUT THAT'S BASICALLY IT. We have a fairly loose itinerary planned for Friday and Saturday (Sunday is when we return) that includes the New England Aquarium, the MIT Museum, a picnic/lunch at Boston Public Garden (Beacon Hill!) and maybe a movie tour or visit to the Zoo or some other museum. Those of you from/frequent visitors to Cambridge/Boston, what are good places to eat lunch/dinner? We're generally going on Yelp! ratings and pictures but after DC we're wary of things going to complete hell on us. So any advice in that area (or tips on far more interesting museums/sites to see) are welcome.

I watched some pilots: Hellcats, Nikita and Terriers. Terriers was the only one that really hooked me. Nikita seems intriguing enough but it didn't focus too much on her. I don't want to judge the show so harshly from one episode, but everyone else was more intriguing to me. Every time it went back to Nikita I was like, "Yeah, whatever, cut back to the other characters!" Hellcats is too teenager-drama-catty for my tastes. Terriers is supposed to be an hour-long dramedy, but it feels much more dramatic than comedic. The only comedy stems from its Psych-meets-Bored to Death premise of LOL THESE GUYS ARE JUST WINGING THIS DETECTIVE JOB, but since I watch both Psych and Bored to Death it feels a bit tired to me. Still, I love Donal Logue enough to keep watching even if it hadn't pulled me in.

I also wanted to start watching Sons of Anarchy again and catch up with Human Target. I can do that within a week, right? >.>

Seems you just add more and more shows to your line of tv viewing. I haven't heard or seen any thing about any of these but they sound interesting

Boston sounds like fun!

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm also cutting down on shows this year. A lot of shows I was just watching hoping to find my next favorite show, but Lost was a letdown in the end and Psych is starting to really piss me off. If my two favorite shows are doing that, what's the point in still watching all these other shows that barely past muster? Plus it's starting to become a chore to just stay on top of all of them and I'm not getting anything out of it.

I hope it is!

[identity profile] demented2468.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah this has not been a good season. The funny just isn't there :( I want old Shawn back!!

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I want old everything back. Even Lassiter isn't that big of a threat to Shawn anymore. Everyone's just good buddies who work at the SBPD.

[identity profile] demented2468.livejournal.com 2010-09-12 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure what went on. It just isn't the same show anymore :(

loooooool, everyone who I'm like, "I'M GOING TO BOSTON!!!" to, is just like, ".....why?". To which I just keep being like, "...I want to?? And it's my birthday soon, so THERE."

....YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THE GAY BAR-ING.
Also...wait, we're going to the MIT Museum?? I mean, that's cool, I guess, but -- when did we decide that.

But yes, LJ friends of Lia, pleaaaase help us out with the suggesting!! In the "things to do" area, especially, seeing as rn we're just like, "....maybe this thing?? Or...idk, this thing miiiight be cool...??"

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
haha, yeah, when I mention I'm going to Boston, people ask for what, and I'm like, my friend's birthday! "Oh, she lives there?" "No..." "But that's where she's at school?" "No...we're just...going?"

I don't think we ever decided on MIT, I just happened to have it in my text file when I was writing this so I just threw that in there? When I wrote this we were like two minutes into that Skyping session, sooo.

[identity profile] ewanspotter.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
What do you think will be canceled first? Nikita? Or Hellcats?

[identity profile] sugareey.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
You're coming to Boston! So funny that I'll be around there that weekend too! For family matters, though. :P

I love the Aquarium, and if you go to Boston Commons, you might see Emerson College playing Quidditch in the baseball/softball fields. :D

Um, as for places, you can try to find places in Copley, or else Newbury St. (You can totes visit Johnny Cupcakes or merch and Upper Crust for pizza there! Or Charlie's Saloon, I have an LJ friend that actually works there too!) If you end up taking the T at all, Park Street and Boylston have some good restaurants (Bolocco is one of my favs, and it's near the Commons).

Err...hope that was helpful?

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I think Hellcats will at least last the season--it seems low-budget enough for the CW to try to keep it going. The CW could use the demographics Nikita would pull in, so of course they'll shoot themselves in the foot with that one.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, well, we'll see each other in NYC, hopefully, at least. :)

This is definitely helpful! We really need a variety of places to eat in case things go crazy on us with the ones we jotted down originally. And Quidditch matches! I'll try to check those out for sure.

....okay, first of all, ADORABLE (&she is super cute, how did I never know this before??), and second, the first thing I thought was "GOOFEY", and couldn't stop laughing.

Okay, I SWEAR I did not go looking for this, that Twitter suggestion thingie suggested it for me: Kendall's mom.

D.Belt tweets @ her, awwwwwwwwww

Actually, all of her tweets are really cute, because they're mostly just good wishes for Kendall or Kevin, or their friends (this might be the cutest, though<3).

......in more cheerful news, though:

1) it is, apparently, BOTH Jamie Kaler's birthday AND Logan Henderson's birthday!

aaaaaaand that is your transition for:

2) THISSSSSSSSS (that last Jonas gif is PERFECT)

3) and this, which is mostly notable for the D.Belt (.....is it sad that I recognized him from the back just because of his hair?? I mean, the loud plaid shirt didn't HURT, buuut), buuuut also for that first GORGEOUS picture of Katelyn Tarver.

..............let's be clear, though, I am still dying a thousand tear-filled deaths for My Boys rn.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
OMG AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. And yeah, have you... not seen a picture of Pris before? OMG, HOLD ON.

...awwww, he deleted it. There used to be a photo on MySpace of him and her skiing or something (there was a lot of snow?) and they were so cuuuuttte. <333333

I SUDDENLY NEED TO FIND THAT EPISODE WHEN DANNY WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW SHE DEFENDED HIM AGAINST THOSE JERKS. THAT IS MY FAVORRRRRIIIITTTTEEEE PRISCILLA STORY.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
AAAAAWWWWWWW, OF COURSE HE TWEETS TO HER. THEY WOULD BE IN-LAWS IF THE LAW AND D.BELT HAD THEIR WAY.

ALSO THAT IS THE CUTEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN ON TWITTER. B'AWWWWWWW.

Re: dear tbs: [my icon]

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
RIGHT? RIGHT?

UGH, AND MY DAY WAS ACTUALLY GOING PRETTY WELL UP UNTIL THAT, WTFFFFFFFF TBS. IHU SO MUCH RN.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
And Anthony Carboni's, apparently! IT'S BEEN A BUSY BORNDAY.

AND LOOOOOOOOL I WAS GOING TO LINK YOU TO THESE TWO THINGS, BUT THEN I SAW YOUR ONE COMMENT (AND REPLIED) AND THEN.... JUST DIDN'T THINK ABOUT LINKING EITHER. BUT I LOVE HOW KENDALL MAKES A PRETTY GOOD-LOOKING GIRL, JUST LIKE HIS BOYFRIEND.

I TOTALLY RECOGNIZED HIM, TOO. IF ONLY BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE HAS HAIR THAT LENGTH (I JUST ASSUMED IT WAS JAMES UNTIL THE SECOND PICTURE AND WAS LIKE, "NOOO... JAMES JUST CUT HIS HAIR-- WAIT, WHAT ARE THOSE SHOESSSSSSS."). ALSO, I LIKE HOW ERIN'S BOOTS ARE LIKE COMPLETELY IN LOGAN'S CROTCH IN THAT SECOND PIC.

ALSO ALSO, IS ERIN.... BETWEEN KATELYN'S LEGS IN THAT ONE SHOT? >.>

What sort of food do you two like/are there are any particular types you would like? Usually when I visit my friend there we eat a lot of Japanese food or... ice cream, haha.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
We were mainly focusing on cheap places? [livejournal.com profile] splits_thesky isn't big on seafood and I don't eat red meat, but that hasn't been a big factor in our dining habits before. And we do both enjoy Japanese!

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-09-15 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
We were mainly focusing on cheap places?

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL, THIS.
But also, classy places, I feel it must be said! ...And also, places that serve booze.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-15 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
But for lunch though? I think we've got dinner down, no?

MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST DO LIKE SHAWN & GUS IN MY ICON AND GO EVERYWHERE~~

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-09-17 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, are we......not picnicking in the park??

(But lulz, perhaps!)

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-09-17 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
LOOOOOOL, BEST. I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand! WE ARE VACATIONING; IT IS A THING THAT PEOPLE DO.

Ah, okay. But now we can go *~*~*~*~*~GEOCACHING*~*~*~*~*~*, also, YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
...where is the food for the picnic coming from though? I kinda assumed we'd get take-out/find a deli and then go picnic?

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I like, btw, how it's THE NIGHT BEFORE and we're still IDK IDK about soooo much. Boston, you are my official fave trip for this random factor alone.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-17 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
HAHA OH YEAH, I SHOULD MAYBE GO CHECK OUT THOSE APPS NOW, THEN. *OFF TO RESEARCH BEST ONE*

lol, cheap is always good! For Japanese, I usually go to Porter Square, which has a lot of little Japanese restaurants, plus a random Korean one (Tampopo is my favorite, Ittyo is good too. Avoid Chocho. There's also a ramen place and a sushi bar.). It's easy to get to, since it's not far from the stop on the redline and attached to Leslie University. Wagamama is pretty good, too, and if you're at the Cambridge one there's a Shabu Shabu place upstairs from it. The other place I really like is Noodle St, but that's not too close to where you'll be.

When you're picnicking, I'd recommend avoiding Faneiul Hall Marketplace, if possible, since FHM is kind of a tourist deathtrap. But it might be unavoidable, lol. Though there are a lot of different food places if you're looking for somewhere quick to get lunch from. I like the macaroni place that's in there. It's within walking distance of the Commons, also near Gov Center & the aquarium. There will be lots of people in costume for the Freedom Trail.

Toscanini's is good for ice cream, and it's in Central Square. For drinks, I've heard good things about Cuchi Cuchi, though I haven't been there before. There's also the cupcake place next to the tea place in Harvard Square, which I enjoy.

I don't really know anything that's close to MIT, aside from the Garment District, but you shouldn't eat any of the clothes there. Oh, and Characters, but that is a horribly mediocre place.

[identity profile] riotgirl77.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Been meaning to check out Terriers but haven't gotten a chance. I think Alex and Michael are the only interesting characters on Nikita and Hellcats..eh like it for what it is even though its too teenager-y. Only two episodes of those shows have aired so don't really want to judge until I see more.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-20 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I was never a big fan of teenager-y shows in general. The ones I do like always get canceled.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, these all sound amazing. We totally didn't get to try any of them but we are in so much love with this city that we plan on going back someday, anyway, so I will save these for that trip!

lulz, we totally didn't go near any clothing stores that I can really remember though? We were mostly in Boston itself, though.

[identity profile] chiasmus.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
lol oops? I realized after your other post that I commented too late. :D But hooray for going back! I rather like it there myself, though most of my excursions involve hitting up the old book stores or just wandering around the Commons.

It's in the MIT area? lol It's a good place to go if you like secondhand clothes shopping.

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-12-09 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
WE STILL HAVE TO DO THIS!!

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-12-09 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I just always heard the stories about her (also, that one where they went to a comedy club, or something??), and she always SOUNDED awesome, but I'd never actually SEEN her. But, niiiiiiiice, Trachtenberg!!

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-12-09 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-12-09 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
lulz, and things STILL CAME TOGETHER!! I mean, not Duck Tour-type things, but STILL.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
haha, omg, I love us. <333 And yeah! WE NEED TO GO BACK, KATE DIVYA. THE DUCKS ARE WAITING FOR US. The pigeons, too, but they seem to manage on their own.

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
WHICH WAS AWESOME. So, yeah. Alternate picnic FTW!

[identity profile] bohemu.livejournal.com 2010-12-11 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha, yess. Like, Dan is a HUGE DORK sometimes, but I like that she's right along there with him. Also, SHE IS SO TINY NEXT TO HIM THERE, <3333 And the more you look at that picture you see how much more effort she put into that costume. Like, she has goggles and track shorts over leggings whereas he's just got his skating gear over his sweatpants, lol.

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-12-15 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
And the mammal center in the aquarium!! LET'S DO ITTT.

[personal profile] splits_thesky 2010-12-15 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
looool, SERIOUSLY. Time to STEP UP YOUR GAME, TRACHTENBERG.
