You made yourself a new world where even strangers make more sense

The other night I couldn't sleep so I got around to finishing a bunch of fanmixes I've had sitting on my iPod forever. Mixes take me forever to do, because like everything else I do, I take them seriously.

1. Pick a theme/pairing and possibly a wide enough genre to encompass possible songs.
2. Go through iPod/iTunes/music library for songs that deal with theme and put them on a playlist.
3. Look up lyrics, knock off songs with words that don't exactly fit.
4. Listen to playlist, knock off songs that stray too far from genre of other songs.
5. Order songs into a storyline, or by music (I hate when mixes span large genres and don't segue well into the next song) and make a new playlist.
6. Listen to playlist, knock off more songs.
7. Listen to playlist one last time, add more songs or re-order as needed.
8. Upload songs, make cover art, post.

Most of the fanmixes were stuck at step 2, but as of right now three are at 7. \o/ The cover art bit is a whole process in itself, but more "try to mimic what's in my mind's eye" than anything else.

In visual media news, I finally saw Brüno and Half-Blood Prince on Monday, but the real highlight of that day was discovering that they've renovated the cheap theatre in my neighborhood. There's actual stadium seating and new seats (the old ones were slashed open and lumpy from 20+ years of usage). The theatre still looks like it's from the '40s, which I always loved about it, but it's comfortable and actually worth the cheap prices now. I think the [livejournal.com profile] m15m post about HBP sums up my feelings pretty well, and as for Brüno, it could've been a bit more... opaque.

Harper's Island: I didn't care for it much, as you can tell as it took me FOREVER to finish it. As much as I love Katie Cassidy, Chris Gauthier and Jim Beaver, none of them hold a candle to Richard Burgi who I didn't even know was in this until I started watching it. And then he died. :( They all died. Although when Katie almost died the first time I was hoping she would, because her character deserved to die. Because if you can't remember to swim to the sizes of the pool or the end where it was still open? You should die. Seriously.

And I knew from exclamations all over Twitter on the night of the finale that it wasn't Jimmy, but it being Henry was weird. He was my first choice after Richard Burgi's character died, but I didn't expect it to actually be him. And what was he expecting to happen between him and Abby? They're half-siblings! Creeper.

Actually, that little girl playing Madison is creepier.

I'm just about to start watching Leverage. I love Kane's music, even though I don't have a lot of it (three tracks?), but the minimum of his acting that I've seen has always been hysterically horrible to me. So I'm slightly concerned that he and Aldis Hodge are the main draws in this series for most of the fans, because I suspect it means the same thing as Harper's Island's popularity: It's a show with a bunch of people from Supernatural fandom! Which is a hypocritical thing for me to say, when I'll watch anything with someone from Firefly fandom (except Dollhouse). But I'm willing to give Leverage the benefit of the doubt, even if I wouldn't normally have given it a passing glance. Which says something, I imagine.

Leverage is such a nice show, and not just for the actors. I watched it for the plot (Con artists, wheee!) but it is a beautiful mix of funny, dramatic, and heartwarming. Sure, Timothy Hutton is not acting with those of his own level, but all five together are what make the show.

Plus, con artists, whee!

Wow. I thought you meant Bruno and the Half-Blood Prince and basically just decided that that would be the most awesome movie ever.

How was Bruno? I've kind of been wanting to see it, but I'm not sure I actually want to spend money on it or not. Maybe a matinee ticket...

That is EXACTLY how I do fanmixes, too!

I really enjoy Leverage. I don't take it too seriously but it's good fun, funny and it's always fun to see them stick it to the bad guys. Aldis Hodge's character cracks my shit up, he is hilarious!

I'm sad you didn't enjoy Harper's Island! I loved it, but, then again, I wasn't expecting it to be realistic (and it really wasn't). I was just watching it for the fun. And suspense. And the few characters I loved. Also, because I find Jimmy ridiculously hot.
