I never do these kinds of things, but I've been in a spammy mood lately and thought it'd be fun... and that's enough of excuses. So here goes my the top 10 obsessions of 2008. Mind you, these are people I was obsessed about in 2008-- whether they had something out this year or not. Although most of them did.

10. The Academy Is... (Mike Carden, William Beckett, The Butcher)

And we start off by cheating! I started the year drooling over Carden's pretty green eyes, and then somehow fell over Beckett (he's not remotely sexy to me and he's too shy and awkward and in love with Gabe Saporta to care about) and then came The Butcher some time last month when I was all over every single picspam and TAI TV episode that had to do with him. I love his passion for his drumset and his art and his dork side, you guys. *melts*

9. Alex Albrecht

DAMN STRAIGHT. Diggnation finally comes to NYC and what does Kevin do? GET DRUNK OUT OF HIS MIND. Alex was the only one remotely (I say only one because idk how Prager and Hippie were, and Brushwood was a slight tool to me) sober enough to meet people and hang around talking to them in a clear voice. And the way he greeted everyone like old friends, omg. Plus, this was the year I seriously started watching The Totally Rad Show, and even though I'm currently four episodes behind, it continues to be one of my favorite podcasts ever. Plus, let's not even talk about the epicness that was the TRS meetup, and how he remembered people by face from the Diggnation night. Or how he knows too many people in Hollywood (Liam Lynch, Felicia Day, Ted Rami, Rex Lee, Jerry Trainor)

8. The cast of How I Met Your Mother

MY LITTLE SHOW THAT COULD. When I first saw the ads for this show I was so put off by NPH, Jason and Alyson because I thought the only reason people would keep this on the air was because of the fans that liked their last shows. And the pilot wasn't funny to me and I said I wasn't going to waste the three episodes later just to drop the show. But then I caught the Liberty Bell episode and I was sold. And then no one else was watching and I thought, it figures! Finally a show funnier, smarter and truer than Friends about friends in NYC and no one watches it. And then it did the schedule tango with The Class and Big Bang Theory and survived. And then it almost got ruined by the Will & Grace GOTW bug but then it didn't! And then it almost got ruined by the BrOTP and then it didn't! And then it almost got ruined by Sarah "I play the same character over and over isn't it funny? Please love me audience!" Chalke and then it didn't! And then Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog and Forgetting Sarah Marshall and intellectual Craig Ferguson interviews and now there's babies on the way and in May we get that goat story finally (YOU PROMISED, FUTURE!TED) and oh, man. I love these guys. Monday nights, never change.

7. Liam Lynch

I should've been watching his podcast ages ago when I realized he was friends with Alex Albrecht (stop knowing people, omg) but I had excuses. When I finally started watching Tenacious D stuff and saw "Directed by Liam Lynch" everywhere I knew I had to jump on the bandwagon. And then he made me feel so much better about being a single person with way too many ideas in my little brain and not being afraid to look stupid in the name of entertainment. I really owe Liam a lot for getting me through some times, especially in the summer.

6. Felicia Day

I knew nothing about her except that she was once on Buffy, which is not a good start for anyone I adore (although Seth Green and Nathan Fillion are good examples of how someone can redeem themselves). But I decided to research more on her after Dr. Horrible consumed my life in July, and I found out about the Guild and how she does her own coding and is on multiple social networking sites (and is active on them!) and then I found her old Cheetos commercial and the new Sears commercial and then she was on House, and she's friends with Alex Albrecht and Wil Wheaton and she's pretty amazing for a girly girl geek.

5. David Hewlett

This was the year that I had great timing and finally caught up to SGA the year the series gets canceled. But no matter how formulaic the episodes were, Rodney McKay was the beacon of light in them all. And it doesn't stop there-- Dave's con videos on YouTube really show the difference between John and him; whereas John's more of a cool guy stuck on a sci-fi show, Dave's a nerdy guy loving his time on the show. He knows his audience and he accepts them because he is one of them himself. His movie A Dog's Breakfast is now on Hulu, which is pretty freaking awesome (much more lulzy for SG-1/SGA fans, however) and this January means the ending of SGA, yes, but also the SGA movie!

4. The cast of The House Bunny (and by cast I mean these two lovely ladies and Colin Hanks.)

I first saw Kat Dennings in The 40 Year Old Virgin, but didn't really notice her until I saw Charlie Bartlett in March/April. 2008 was a good year for her-- not only did she get noticed for her YouTube videos, blog and The House Bunny, but she was in one of my favorite movies of 2008: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (not just because it filmed at my school, okay!). Next year is sure to be amazing for her as well because she's in Robert Rodriguez's new film Shorts (yeah, it's a kids movie-- whatever) and at least two others slated for release.

Emma Stone had her moments on Drive and in Superbad, but she really shone in The House Bunny as the leader of the sorority. She was also in The Rocker with Rainn Wilson, which I didn't get to see, and her next movie has not only McConaughey but Jennifer Garner in it so I'm not sure about her future. But her great comedic timing is certainly to be admired!

Colin Hanks decided 2008 was the year to finally get a career, and was not only in The House Bunny but The Great Buck Howard, Untraceable, W. and three episodes of Mad Men (which I haven't gotten to yet so shhhh). I'm sure he got noticed by someone, so 2009 should be wicked awesome.

3. Lizzy Caplan

I first noticed Lizzy in Mean Girls, but I became a fan of hers when she was on The Class. When it got canceled, I was rooting for her to make something amazing. And then she started this year off by being in Cloverfield and then followed that up with My Best Friend's Girl (with Nate Torrence!) and a stint (or is she part of the cast now?) on True Blood. She reminds me a lot of Katy Perry and her sarcastic comedy reminds me a lot of Kat Dennings, so I'm sure people get them confused. I've been watching her True Blood scenes here and there even though I don't watch the series anymore because I think she's a great actress that-- at least up until now-- wasn't being utilized.

2. Michelle Monaghan

I started this year only knowing her as the girl from Gone Baby Gone and the Bourne Supremacy, but after watching Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in March I fell in love with her. I didn't watch The Heartbreak Kid because um, no. But Made of Honor was amazing and Eagle Eye has definitely put her on the map. Sure, she spent most of the year pregnant with her first baby, but now she's back in contention for some great starring roles and I can't wait to see what the future holds for her.

1. Jack Black

If you count up the months of the year that I was obsessed with Jack Black (June-December), he beats out RDJ (March-June). But Jack Black had a YEAR, you guys. I used to hate him when Shallow Hal came out, but I think it was School of Rock when I decided he was pretty cool-- and then King Kong was amazing. AND THEN THIS YEAR: Be Kind Rewind, Kung Fu Panda and Tropic Thunder and the Prop 8 Musical... I finally started listening to Tenacious D and saw The Holiday, Margot at the Wedding, Walk Hard, POD... etc. I love guys who are so in tune with their inner child and still retain brains. Plus, next year is BrĂ¼tal Legend. EPIC SQUARED.

Honorable mentions go to: Jason Schwartzman (new album in 2009, but where was he in 2008?) and Seth Rogen (who was everywhere but wasn't funny ever) and Robert Downey Jr. (grow a pair).
