bohemia: (Doctor Who - Allons Y Janto)

The way Netflix has the episodes I thought I only had the finale to go, but the last episode of season six on Netflix is actually the Christmas episode. So although I'll probably update this with thoughts on that, here's my reboot!Who thoughts.

I didn't have any comments about season five. I had to pull myself through it and was barely holding onto my attention for a full episode. After the shock of EVERY FUCKING THING CHANGING I was just sort of a mix of "But WHY are even the things that didn't need changing... changed?" and "I do enjoy Moffat episodes, I just have to give it time..." for most of it. I was bothered because I couldn't decide what the show had become. Once I decided it was a mix of Being Human S3 and Misfits in tone I was okay. I mean, "The Doctor is Dying" was basically a wolf-shaped bullet, anyway. But the only episodes I was really enjoying were "Vincent and the Doctor" onwards ("Victory of the Daleks" gets a special mention because YOU DO NOT REQUIRE TEA and PLEASE DESIST FROM STRIKING ME are just hilarious to me and I adore the Daleks. WHY DID THEY CHANGE SO MUCH AND THEN NEVER COME BACK?? WHY SPEND THE MONEY MAKING ENTIRELY NEW MODELS FOR NO REASON!!!).

I wasn't a fan of how everything had shifted from being about the adventures to suddenly being exclusively about The Doctor and his role. Had that been the focus all along I'd have been fine with it. But changing perspective mid-way through a series has always bothered me. Usually it's to do with the changing of the main actors, but with Doctor Who that's built in. When Lost went supernatural and then decided it was back to being about the characters or when Supernatural went completely Christian and then decided--well, I don't know what it decided because I stopped caring. But I don't like what is essentially POV changes in TV series. But I stuck with it because I really enjoyed a majority of what was happening in season six. I was actively going, "NO WAY!" whenever I wasn't spoiled by something. I knew almost all the big stuff like River and Melody, but there were a few happy surprises. And then "Let's Kill Hitler" happened and I wanted to throw my phone across the hotel room I was staying in. I was enjoying River up until that episode. I can't even describe what bothers me about it. I just kept shaking my head going, "No. Don't do this to her. She doesn't deserve this crap writing." I would've just begrudgingly watched the end of that season and maybe shuffled through seven before giving up. I might just do that. And I can't tell you how much I hate every time River pops up after that. I loved her story before then. River's story is so tragically beautiful in that Simon from Misfits way. I wanted to take courses on analyzing Moffat's writing. But "Let's Kill Hitler"... my feelings on that episode as a whole (bb!Ponds were cute! The crop circle cracked me up! Hitler in the cupboard never to be seen again!) are akin to my feelings about Rose being the reason that Captain Jack is immortal or the way Jack solved the 456 problem in Children of Earth. Every time I think about it I wish I could delete that section of my memory. And for as excited as I was for the Silence to finally evolve from "The Silence in the Library" I hate this storyline even more than the crack in Amy's room. AND OHMYGOD AMY'S FUCKING S6 INTRO IS SO ANNOYING. WHAT MAKES YOUR TIME WITH THE DOCTOR SO FUCKING SPECIAL. YOU ARE MARRIED. CALM. DOWN. YOU ARE NOT A:TLA'S KATARA. YOU ARE NOT TORCHWOOD!JACK. STOP. STOP GIVING BACK STORY NO ONE NEEDS TO HEAR FIFTY TIMES A SEASON.

I actually enjoyed Amy mostly. But I really enjoyed Rory! He was fucking useless at first, always bloody dying and having to be rescued, but then he's the Last Centurion! Sometimes he can't actually be the one to save Amy! Sometimes he tries to save two Amys! He nor Amy are co-dependently in love! He can function alongside the Doctor and not (always) be jealous of him! I hear that I'm not alone in my love of Rory, but he doesn't get a lot of love on my Tumblr dashboard and I don't understand why. He has bad moments, sure, but so do a lot of the companions.

Here is my list of my top ten favorite Whoverse characters: Tosh, Martha, Elton, Ianto, K-9, Donna, Rory, TARDIS, Craig, Adam (Who). And, actually, here's an updated list of companions: Martha, Sarah Jane, Donna, Rory, Amy, Craig (WHY DOESN'T THE DOCTOR SEEK OUT MORE DUDES), Rose, Mickey, Adam (I still count him!), Jack. RORYYYY

I love the few episodes that harken back to Nine's season. "The Lodger", "Closing Time", "Night Terrors" … they all seem like things that could have happened with any doctor. Once all the Silence bullshit started I really clung to the one-offs. I just want more camp and less trying to connect little pieces of episodes down the line. MOFFAT WHAT DID YOU DO.

ALSO WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WHOLE THING ABOUT THE SILENCE CAUSING THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION. WHY ARE THEY STILL A THING. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE OTHER RACES. WHY ARE WE ONLY GETTING ONE DALEK EPISODE AND THEN EVERYTHING IS RANDOM ASS ALIENS. WHY INTRODUCE TESELECTAS WHEN WE HAVE AT LEAST THREE RACES THAT USE SHIMMERS OR OTHER CLOAKING DEVICES. WHERE ARE THE CYBERMEN ACTUALLY BEING MENACING LIKE IN "SMITH AND JONES." DALEKS TAKING OVER PLACES! THE OOD AND SONTARANS NOT JUST BEING DECORATION. THE JUDOON! I DIDN'T THINK I CARED SO MUCH BUT I DO.

And finally, the Weeping Angels aren't as creepy in practice. In theory they freak me out, but that's because I don't know the Doctor personally. I'd imagine he'd just be able to find me in time and bring me back. I don't get why Amy's so scared of them. Or anyone for that matter. The Silence are far more creepy.
